From September 08-10, Maik Gerken represented us at the Handelsblatt Bankengipfel 2021. Read here how he experienced the event and what exciting impressions he gathered of the current trends and challenges in the financial sector:
“The Banking Summit was a highly exciting fully digital event, rich in many prominent participants, very interesting topics and many very good presentations and discussions. The banking industry in Germany is currently facing major challenges in the areas of sustainability, digitization, increasing regulation and high competitive pressure from new FinTechs. In addition, the large banks in particular see the need for a European capital markets union and the associated consolidation of the banking sector in order to survive in international competition. So far, the banks have weathered the Corona crisis well, but the European Central Bank continues to see risks in the banks’ balance sheets that could become a problem when government aid ends.
was very impressed by the momentum that the pressure to digitize has unleashed in the banking industry, despite or perhaps because of the Corona crisis. Banks are opening up to cooperative ventures and aiming for platform solutions on which different products are also offered by partners. The focus is on customer needs for additional services, and traditional banking is basically only a means to an end. Automation through the use of artificial intelligence in processes and credit decision-making in particular are becoming increasingly important to enable a correspondingly positive customer experience.
In any case, it was very worthwhile to participate and I am already looking forward to the next banking summit in 2022, which will also be held again as a face-to-face event.”
