We are very pleased that the Federal Republic of Germany has commissioned INIT to implement the electronic death certificate (eTB) for the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
Background
Currently, doctors in Germany fill out the death certificate using a paper form. However, this is accompanied by a number of problems, such as incorrect data or the illegibility of essential information. Therefore, this process is to be digitized and transferred to an app. Thus, the goal is to measurably improve data quality and to provide a tool that is intuitive for physicians to use and that provides useful assistance in filling out the form. Following development, the app will then be tested in an initial three pilot regions.
Implementation
We have assembled a team of 13 people to successfully implement the electronic death certificate. In each case, smaller, specialized teams work with the necessary expertise in the areas of design, app development, backend and project management. Overall, however, we see ourselves as a large team, not least because of the many interfaces between the different areas of responsibility. In addition to team spirit, continuous, overarching communication is therefore particularly important for project success.
In addition to application development, the project also includes the provision of the required hardware and infrastructure. To this end, we have brought two strong partners on board: During the pilot phase, Vodafone Germany will take care of supplying the participating doctors with iPads, mobile phone contracts and user support. As part of its Digital Healthcare Partner Initiative, SAP provides expert support in setting up the back-end infrastructure within the Business Technology Platform.
